Welcome to Mrs. Pope’s Kindergarten Class

Parent/Teacher Communication:

I believe that a good parent/teacher relationship is necessary for maximum school success. Throughout the year, I will communicate with you through daily comments, progress reports, report cards, notes home, conferences, and dojo.

Two folders will be provided for your child. A red daily “EAGLE FOLDER” will be sent home daily. Inside this folder you will see two labels: KEEP AT HOME (please keep these materials at home for review), and RETURN TO SCHOOL. Information, notes, or money you need me to see should be placed in the daily folder. PLEASE CHECK THIS FOLDER AND SEND IT BACK WITH YOUR CHILD DAILY!!!!

On Wednesdays you will also see a BLUE FOLDER. This folder will have graded papers and a sheet for your signature. Papers are to be taken out and kept at home. Please sign signature sheet and return folder the next day.

Grading: Our school year is divided into four grading periods, each consisting of nine weeks.  Interims will be sent home midway through each nine weeks followed by a report card at the end of each nine weeks.

Classroom Discipline: I will follow closely along with our school wide positive behavior support program. Please check and read your child’s handbook.  I will also send home a behavior sheet to be signed and returned.  Verbal warnings will be given before students move their magnet.

White: Star Student (Great Day)

Yellow: Warning

Red: Silent Lunch or Recess Detention (whichever one comes first)

Black: Call Home and/or Office

Changes in Transportation: If your child's transportation changes at any time, it is pertinent that you inform me of this in writing.  If I do not receive a written note, your child will be sent home by his/her usual method.

Supply Fee: Our supply fee is $45.00 (includes cap and gown) and can be paid online. We strongly encourage you to do so.  A receipt will be emailed directly to you. Students will not be allowed to go on field trips if this fee is not paid.

Money: Most all other money that will need to be collected will be payable online. On occasion, it is necessary for your child to bring money to school. Always send money to school in a sealed envelope, labeled with the following:

1.  Your child's first and last name

2.  The amount/reason for the money

3.  My name (Mrs. Pope) and room # (510)

**This information will help to reduce the likelihood of errors.

Birthdays: Birthdays are special occasions for young children.  If you wish, you may send treats for the class on your child's birthday. Please notify me in advance. Please do not send invitations to school for a birthday party unless the whole class is invited. This helps to avoid hurt feelings.

Rest Time: Rest time is an important time in our day.  Our children still need their rest.  Even though they are not required to sleep, they are required to lay still and rest quietly. No towels, covers, pillows, blankets, or stuffed animals.  Space is limited and germs are generously spread.

Restroom: Children are allowed to visit the restroom throughout the day. Please encourage your child to inform me of when he/she needs to visit the restroom, if it is not at our whole class visit.  All children should be able to attend to their needs without assistance. Please send your child in uniform clothes that he/she can fasten and unfasten easily. If there are special circumstances regarding your child, please discuss this with me as soon as possible. It is a good idea to have an extra uniform in your child’s books. Accidents do happen.

Water Bottles: Students are required to bring water bottles from home. They will be able to refill their water bottles throughout the day. Please send this back and forth daily.

Snacks: We will have a small snack time each day. At this time, students may bring a small snack from home (Examples: fruit snack, chips, cookies, goldfish, graham crackers).

In closing, I am looking forward to a wonderful, fun, and rewarding year with you and your child. Thanks in advance for your help and support throughout the school year. If you have any questions or concerns you may contact me through e-mail ([email protected]) or call the school office (665-6702).
