Basic Study Skills Class Syllabus

Course Description:
This course is designed to meet individual student’s accommodations and modifications in the regular education setting, as well as gain or recover necessary credits for graduation through virtual school. Instruction will focus on goal-setting, time management, organizational skills, learning strategies, and other specific study skills needed by individual students. Students will also use time in the Study Skills class to improve their reading and writing skills and work toward completing their assignments in other classes.
Communication with parents, general education teachers, and/or caseload managers will be ongoing regarding the students’ behavior and general performance in their regular education classes and in the Study Skills class.
Student Expectations/Policies:
- Arrival to class: Students are to enter class in a pleasant manner before the tardy bell.
- Be prepared for class: Make sure you have your materials for all of your classes. You will not be allowed to go to your locker.
- Classroom Behavior: Courtesy and respect are to be shown towards everyone, from everyone.
- ***Plato/Virtual School: Students will be required to work on Plato daily through note taking from tutorials, completing application questions, completing mastery tests, posttesst, and offline activities.
- Study Skill Assignments: Students will be introduced to techniques on how to take notes, prepare for test, organize themselves, use references and resources, set goals, become familiar with learning styles, and investigate careers.
Supplies –Roll of Paper Towels, Box of Kleenex, , a binder with paper and a pencil or pen
