Mrs. Mihalenko holds a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and English, and a Masters Degree in Gifted/Talented/Creative Education. She began working at Truman School in September of 1991 and taught 2nd and 3rd grade students for eleven years. After a child-rearing leave, Mrs. Mihalenko returned to teach kindergarteners and first graders. She enjoys working with students of all ages; teaching is definitely a passion for her!
For 18 years, Mrs. Mihalenko was also a freelance writer for The Education Center, a leading publisher of teacher resource books and materials. She has written 5 books for teachers and contributed to more than 100 issues of "Teacher's Helper" and "The Mailbox" magazines.
Mrs. Mihalenko now serves as the TAG and enrichment teacher for all four K-3 Sayreville schools. She works with ALL of our second and third grade students each month teaching STEM lessons. She also works with small groups of third graders in the district talented and gifted program.
Mrs. Mihalenko loves working with students in every school, and especially enjoys bringing STEM and "out of the box" thinking into each class.
In her spare time (which there is not much of!) Mrs. Mihalenko LOVES to read! When the weather is nice, she also enjoys gardening, landscaping, and yardwork. During the pandemic, she picked up two new hobbies: book folding and repurposing. Her favorite thing in the world is spending time with her husband, two children, and dog!
