Dear Parents/Guardians:
Welcome to the SUES! While we recognize that this year may be challenging, a new school year is an exciting time for children. It means making new friends, taking part in activities and learning new skills. I look forward to working together with you in the best interest of your child.
Homework has a positive influence on learning and achievement. It is important that homework be viewed as a cooperative effort between home and school. The purpose of homework is to: apply and reinforce recent learning, expose students to new ideas and encourage independent work habits.
Every student has received an assignment pad for his or her homework. All students must copy down their homework assignments. Time is allotted during class for students to copy down their homework. Please read and sign your child’s assignment pad EVERY night. Encourage your child to be responsible and turn in their homework on time.
Memorization of the multiplication tables is necessary in fourth grade. Every student should have a set of flash cards. Please encourage your child to study these facts. All fourth-grade math concepts are related to multiplication. Memorization of basic multiplication facts will make it much easier for your child to master new topics such as multiplying larger numbers, long division, fractions, measurement conversions, decimals and multi-step word problems.
Grading Policy – Assignments and assessments will be graded using “Performance Indicators” such as Exceeds Standards (ES), Meets Standards (MS), Approaching Standards (AS), and Needs Support (NS).
How Can You Help?
- Set up a daily family routine, including healthy eating and sleeping habits.
- Provide a place at home for your child to work.
- Check on assignments. Talk each day with your child about his/her activities.
- Ensure that your child is completing all required assignments and submitting these in a timely manner.
- Encourage your child to reach out to me if they have any questions or concerns or need any extra help.
Please make sure that your child is prepared for class. A list of school supplies is listed on another tab.
I am very eager to get to know and work with your children. Please let me know of any questions or concerns you might have. The best way to get in touch with me is through email.
