Dear Parent/Guardian,
Welcome to the new school year! I’m thrilled to have your child in my classroom this year and look forward to getting to know you and your child better. Together, we’ll form a productive partnership to ensure your child achieves his or her highest potential and all of his or her learning goals. I would like to take this time to introduce myself and familiarize you with my student expectations, classroom discipline plan and grading policy. I believe that in order to have a successful school year it is important that both parents and teachers work together to ensure that your child will get the most out of his or her school year. I encourage you to communicate any concerns that you may have with me via e-mail or by phone. My e-mail address may be found by accessing the Sayreville School District webpage ([email protected]). In most cases, I am able to respond back within 24 hours. If at any time there is an urgent message that you feel I need to receive that day please contact me by using the school teleprompt system.
CLASSROOM DISCIPLINE PLAN
In order to ensure that a proper learning environment is attained it is important that students understand and follow a fair classroom discipline plan that explains and outlines rules, expectations, and consequences due to misconduct. Below is a list of the most basic classroom rules, however, building and district discipline plans are also to be followed in the classroom. Those rules are outlined both online and in the school agenda books provided at the beginning of the year.
1) FOOD IS PROHIBITED IN CLASSROOMS
2) CELL PHONES ARE NOT PERMITTED IN CLASSROOMS
3) STUDENTS ARE TO BE IN CLASS PRIOR TO THE LATE BELL
4) IN ORDER TO BE HEARD YOU MUST RAISE YOUR HAND
5) NO INAPPROPRIATE LANGUAGE OR PUT-DOWNS
6) ASSIGNMENTS ARE DUE WHEN SPECIFIED (REFERENCE DISTRICT GRADING POLICY)
CONSEQUENCES
In the event that a student does not follow the classroom discipline plan, students will be reprimanded accordingly.
1) Verbal Warning
2) Lunch detention (accompanied by a letter or phone call home)
3) Administrative Referral
- Once a student has received an administrative referral or detention, the matter is then handled by the administration!
GRADING POLICY AND COURSE/CLASSROOM HIGHLIGHT

SUPPLIES AND MATERIALS
Although I do not require any specific supplies, I do feel that in order to be successful in any subject it is important for a student to be organized and prepared for that day’s activity.
Each day students will be required to do some type of writing activity whether that be note taking or essay writing, therefore, it is necessary for students to bring paper (notebook, loose leaf paper, or a binder) , folder along with a pen or pencil. All final drafts of essays must be written in pen or typed. Students will be expected to keep handouts and graded assignments, therefore, a folder or binder may be useful so those papers do not get lost or misplaced.
Working together, I know that we can make this year an especially rewarding one.
Respectfully,
Rosie Picazio
