Philosophy Statement

Teachers play an important role in the lives of students from the moment they start school all the way to the time they graduate and even further into the future. Each teacher can either affect a student's acadmic experience positively or negatively and can even guide a student towards their goals. I understand the role of a teacher is an important one. Therefore, my goal is to use music to help students understand not only other people's differences but their own differences, to help each student discover their potential, and to help students realize the benefits of teamwork.

People are different not only physically but mentally and emotionally as well and I believe that these differences can be understood and utilized positively. Just like musicians and composers use different instruments, techniques and sounds to create their music so should students use their differences to set goals and discover their passions. However, music not only helps students become aware of themselves and the people around them. It also helps foster a strong idea of teamwork because music cannot be produced or performed well if the members of a group are not working together. This valuable lesson does not only apply to music but to other areas of society as well.

I believe that the best way to teach students is to lead by example. If we want our students to grow to be assets to the community, we must teach them by being positive examples ourselves. To do this teachers, families, and the community need to work together to build a positive environment for our students to learn and grown in.
