ART I

 

Art I introduces the student to fine arts by allowing them to have a hands on experience with 2 and 3 dimensional art. Using a variety of subject matter and artistic media, students will explore the elements and principles of design, basic concepts in drawing and design, color theory, painting and mixed media. Students will apply these concepts in the studying of 3-dimensional design and application using various media and techniques. Students will also be introduced to and develop knowledge and skills in art history, aesthetics and criticism.

 

Grading: Student evaluations will be based on: class participation, effort, completion of assignments/projects/tests, and homework.

10% Personal Responsibility (Participation, homework,google meets, do nows, etc..)

40% Formative Assessment, (mini lessons, tutorial drawings, sketchbooks, progress shots)

50% Summative Assessment (finished pieces, COMPLETED)

 

Requirements:

  • Full period attendance of all classes is required. Unexcused lateness or absences will affect grades directly; all course work on absent days will need to be made up on free periods, lunch or after school. (Absent 1 block = 60 minutes of makeup work)
  • Active participation in all class discussions and critiques is expected.
  • All projects and assignments are to be complete and are due on date assigned (unless stated otherwise) Most work will be completed during studio time! Work should not be completed at home unless told otherwise
  • Critical review of work will be ongoing through semester (Peer & Self) Final Individual critique will be due at the end of semester.

 

Expectations: A responsible, health conscious, safe and respectful approach to the use of the studio, materials and towards student/student work is EXPECTED! A cooperative and positive spirit along with full participation in maintaining a clean and orderly studio is required.

 

**Claiming another persons work as your own is considered plagiarism and will be treated as such. School rules and procedures should be followed at all times during the class block. Proper discipline actions will be implemented if the situation occurs.

 

*Students are encouraged to use the studio to complete their work during class hours. Extra studio hours will be provided if needed.
