Welcome to Mrs. Harmening's Reading Room!
I am the Reading Specialist at Garfield Park Academy. This is my fourth year here but I've been a teacher for eight years. I love working with students of all ages to help them become successful readers and writers.
I graduated from Fordham University in 2007 with a B.S. in Inclusive Elementary Education. After working as a teacher's assistant for a year, I went back to get my master's degree. In December 2012, I completed my Master's of Arts from Rider University in Reading and Language Arts. I recently completed my certification to become a Wilson Reading Teacher and was named a Wilson Dyslexia Practitioner.
In my ten years in the education profession, I've worked as a Basic Skills Teacher's Assistant and 5th Grade In-class and Resource Room Teacher in the public school setting. I've also worked with 7th to 12th grade developmentally delayed students in a residential facility and middle school students at a private school for exceptional students.
I look forward to my adventure as a Reading Specialist, working one-on-one with students, and assisting teacher in Language Arts Literacy instruction.
