A little bit about the structure of this class...

 

There is a heavy emphasis on writing and source analysis; therefore, most of the work will be done in class with direct instruction. There will be little to no homework in Social Studies this year. 

 

The majority of the grading for written responses will be done collaboratively with the teacher to foster growth and understanding of written expression in history. Class is discussion-based with a strong emphasis on collaboration. 

 

Unit Assessments are open-note, but will include all open-ended questions to emphasize analysis and writing skills. Students will be guided in class on how they can study for an open-note assessment. This will include creating a glossary of the different types of information in each worksheet to help with time management (and review), as well as creating/predicting their own open-ended questions that could be on the test to practice answering.
