Homework

Homework every night is important in order to reinforce and practice skills learned in school. Homework is given every night except Friday and is expected to be turned in the next day.

Students will have phonics and math homework each night. My hope is that each student will complete them both as independently as possible, but may ask for help when it is needed. The phonics homework will be fluency practice sheets and stories sent home that match the lessons we have covered in class. They just have to read it once to a listener at home. Then both the student and listener sign once it has been read.

Math homework is to reinforce weekly math concepts and problem solving strategies. Fact practice is strongly encouraged! Repetition is key and even five minutes a day will improve your student's knowledge of basic facts. The goal for each second grader is to be able to fluently add and subtract numbers to 20 by the end of the year.
