Need an online dictionary? Here's a great one!
Make sure when using this tool:
- You choose your language at the top (either English --> French, or Français --> Anglais)
- When looking up what a French word means, PLEASE leave out the article (le, la, les, l', un, une, des, etc.)
- Next to each word, you will see many different letters...here's a shortcut:
- nm = masculine (noun)
- nf = feminine (noun)
- nmpl = masculine plural (noun)
- nfpl = feminine plural (noun)
- When looking up a verb in French, PLEASE leave out the "to" (so if you wanted to look up "to play," just type in the word "play").
- Anything with a "v" near or next to is is a VERB
- Do NOT translate more than a word at a time - this is a DICTIONARY, NOT a translator! You should be using this as an additional resource, NOT your only one!
*NOTE: There is a big difference between a translator and a dictionary...make sure you use the reference above and nothing else! (e.g. Google Translate...pas bon!).
