                   WELCOME TO KINDERGARTEN!!!!!!!

August 2023

Dear Kindergartners,

My name is Mrs. Weidman and I am so excited to be your Kindergarten teacher this year!  I hope you are having a wonderful summer. I can't wait to hear all about your adventures. I have been spending time with my family in the Poconos, reading, and planning for our year.

There will be many surprises in store for you in Kindergarten. We will have fun getting to know each other, meeting new friends, and building our classroom community. We will be learning letter sounds and words to help us read and write and learning math skills with numbers up to 100!!! We will also be learning about our community, force and motion, plants, animals, and many other exciting topics.

I have a special project I would like you to complete for the first full week of school. It is called “Mystery Person”:  Find three or four small objects/toys that tell something about you. Put them in a brown paper lunch bag. You can decorate the outside of the bag as well.  Here are some ideas of items to put in your bag: a crayon to show your favorite color, a paint brush if you enjoy art, a book if you like to read, a candy wrapper of a favorite candy, a small toy you like to play with, etc.  Please write your name on the INSIDE of the bag.  Each day, I will choose a “Mystery Bag” or two to share. As a class, we will try to guess who the “Mystery Bag” belongs to and you will have a chance to show/tell us why you chose those items.  It will take us some time to complete our bags, so don’t put in an object you may need right away. I can’t wait to see what you bring to begin to make connections with your classmates.  Have fun!

**Please send in your bag by Monday or Tuesday September 11th or 12th.***

I have been busy putting together materials that we will use throughout the year.  I will provide containers of supplies so we can practice our sharing/community building skills within the classroom. So no need to buy a pencil box full of supplies.  However, if you would like to pick out and donate some crayons, colored pencils, glue sticks, etc. to the class that we can all use and share this year, that would be awesome.  I will also provide you with a takehome folder to be used each day.

Each day, you will also need:

*A nametag:  An idea could be a simple index card on a string to wear around your neck--wear to school on the first few days. (Please include child's name, teacher’s name and the bus number/parent pick up. This will help the staff get you to your homeroom each morning.)

*Sunscreen--please apply before school, as we will spend

as much time as we can outdoors.  (We cannot apply in school.)

*A backpack (without wheels), that is large enough to hold a takehome folder and completed work/projects.

*A healthy snack and reusable water bottle each day  (Please put the snack in a

sealed container or bag and clearly mark it with your name.  Make sure your water bottle is labeled as well)

*Lunch (again please be sure your name is on everything), if you are bringing your own.

*A set of extra clothes, labeled, in a plastic bag. Sometimes accidents do happen. Please be sure your child is bathroom     independent. We will keep these extra clothes in their cubbie.

Parents:

Please be sure to call the safeline if your child will be absent.

Please be sure your name and the child's name is on all notes for me.

I am so excited to meet you and begin to create wonderful memories for you in Kindergarten at Bear Tavern!

Love,

Mrs. Weidman
