Dear Kindergartners,

I hope you are having a wonderful summer and can't wait to hear all about your adventures.  I have been spending time with family, vacationing, and planning for our year.

There are many surprises in store for you in Kindergarten. We will have fun getting to know new friends along with learning letter sounds to help us read and write. We will be learning about our community, force and motion, numbers, and many other exciting topics.

I have a special project I would like you to complete for the first full week of school.  It is called “Mystery Person”:

Find three small objects/toys that tell something about you. Put them in a paper bag and give it to your teacher.  (Some ideas might be a crayon if you like to color, a paint brush if you enjoy art, a book if you like to read, etc.)

You can write your name on the INSIDE of the bag.  Each day,  I will choose a “Mystery Bag” or two to share. As a class, we will try to guess who the “Mystery Bag” belongs to.  It will take us some time to complete our bags, so don’t put in an object you may need right away. We can’t wait to see what you bring to begin making connections with your classmates.

*Please send in your bag by Monday or Tuesday September 11th or 12th.*

Your teachers will be busy putting together materials that will be yours for the year.  We will provide shared containers of supplies to practice community building skills within the classroom.  (If you are interested in donating supplies, we can always use glue sticks, white board markers, and/or twistable crayons.)

Each day, you will also need:

*A nametag:  An idea could be a simple index card on a string to wear around your neck--wear to school on the first few days. (Please include child's name, teacher’s name, and bus number. This will help staff direct you to your homeroom each morning.)

*Sunscreen--please apply before school, as we will spend as much time as we can outdoors.  (We cannot apply in school.)

*A backpack (without wheels)  that will be large enough to hold a take home folder and completed work/projects

*1 healthy snack and reusable water bottle each day  (Please put in a sealed container or bag and clearly mark it with your name.)

*Lunch  (If you are bringing, please be sure your name is on everything!)

*A set of extra clothes, labeled, in a plastic bag.  (Sometimes accidents do happen.  However, please be sure your child is bathroom independent.)

*Headphones:  You may be able to find these in the dollar store. Mark with name. (If possible, please no ear buds)

I am so excited to meet you and begin to create wonderful memories of your first year at Bear Tavern!

Love,

     The Kindergarten Team

If for ANY reason you need to make a change in your child's dismissal, please call or email the office directly and indicate your child's name.

**Any communication needs to have your child's first and last name (especially if a different last name is being used).

If your child will be out sick, call the "Safeline".

The office and nurse need to know where your child is at all times.

If you have to send money in with your child for any reason, PLEASE be sure it is in an envelope marked clearly with your child's name and reason marked on the envelope.
