February 13, 2015

Where did January go? I can't believe we are half way through February. Thank you so much for all the wonderful Valentines!  I am in candy-bliss! I hope you are having fun with the monthly projects. I certainly enjoyed the Habitat Presentations. The kids were so excited to present and they learned a lot from each other. Parents please note that on the montly project there are two parts. Students should turn in a written paper and a visual-aid. The visual can be a poster (not a sheet of paper), model, Powerpoint, etc. Remember you are helping your child compelte the project, but make sure your child completes majority of the work themselves.

We're Learning About: Distributive Property, Area Model, Partial Products, Mastering Multiplication facts to 10x10, Reading Comprehension and Questioning, Understanding Character Traits, Mary McLeod Bethune, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Eleanor Roosevelt, Ecosystems and Environments, and Affects of Changes to Habitats. Have your child tell me the secret word "Roosevelt" for a special treat!

December 3, 2014

The past week has been super busy with learning. Ask your child about the following "Buzz Words" Informational writing, homophones, similies, metaphors, inferring, non-fiction text features, inverse operation, numerator, denominator, equivalent, rights, suffrage (womens' rights to vote), equality, weathering, and erosion.

By now I am sure you have heard about your child's upcoming presentation on Susan B. Anthony. Some projects have already come in and they look great.

We will be having a Winter Party on Friday December 19th at 12:45pm. Look for a letter to come home Friday with more details. Also, if you would prefer your child not participate in the Winter Party, please send me a written note or email.

Wow! I can't believe that we are already going into the 4th week of school! We are having tons of fun during our daily routine of whole groups, small groups, and centers. The kids are learning a lot and we are having lots of fun working together. Check out our "What We're Learning" page.

Thank you parents for helping your child make multiplication facts for their "2s" facts. To give the students a chance to pick up on the facts and really learn what it means to multiply I will be introducing 1 set of facts every two weeks. This will give children a chance to master one set before adding another. Once we have gone through all the facts (0s-10x10) we will mix them all.
