Character Education Program
The True Colors initiative was put in place to help children monitor and reflect on their behavior. Each month, there will be a different character education word that we will focus on to build good character. Please reinforce this daily.
Pictured is our behavior clip chart. Every morning, the students' clips will begin on green, "Ready to Learn." Positive behaviors, displays of the character education word, and exemplary work will result in the child's clip being moved up to yellow, orange, and red. However, if a student displays behaviors we are trying to change or they are not doing their best work, their clip will move down the chart.
At the end of the day, the calendar on the front of your child's red communication folder will be colored to reflect what he/she earned that day. If they earned blue, purple, or pink, please check for a note from your student and I that describes the behaviors they chose to exhibit that caused that color. This note is to be signed and returned.
Each color has a number assigned to it (red=3, orange=2 points, yellow=1, green=0, blue= -1, purple= -2, pink=-3). At the end of the month, the points will be tallied, and students who achieve the requisite number of points will be awarded a pencil and a dress down day. The number of points students need to earn is at the top of the calendar on your child's red communication folder. At the end of every trimester (November, February, and June) those students who earned their points for every month will participate in a fun activity.
Regardless of the color earned, please make character education a daily conversation at home!
