COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
Musical Theatre I
Musical Theatre I is a beginner course teaching technical and practical aspects of musical theatre and the impact of the arts, in general, on society. This class focuses on musical theatre history and repertoire from 1900-1960 as well as musical theatre technique and performance. Students work on basic acting, music and movement skills. The focus is on collaboration, problem solving, and critical analysis.

Musical Theatre II
Musical Theatre II is an intermediate course in musical theatre technique and performance that focuses on musical theatre history and repertoire from 1970-present. Students are required to audition for school musical productions and participate in supporting other divisions of the BHS Fine and Performing Arts Program (ushering, crew, marketing, etc).

Musical Theatre III
Musical Theatre III is an advanced course in acting, singing, and dancing that primarily focuses on musical theatre dance styles. Heavy emphasis is placed on development of dance technique while also creating and curating the performer's vocal book. Students are required to audition for school musical productions and support other BHS Fine and Performing Arts events.

Musical Theatre IV
Musical Theatre IV is an advanced course that focuses on career opportunity and preparation. Heavy emphasis is placed on refining performance skills, technical skills, and deep understanding of the many ways to build a thriving career as a professional artist. This course adapts to fit each student's individual career interests and goals and ensures they are college and career ready. Students are required to audition for school musical productions and support other BHS Fine and Performing Arts events.
Black Theatrer and Performance
This course explores African American theatre with specific emphasis on their social, political, and cultural contexts. Possible topics include the Harlem Renaissance, the African American Little Theatre, the Black Arts Movement, and Black musical theatre.

Theatre I
This course is an activity-oriented introduction to the nature of theatre as a performing art. Students will learn the basics of theatre and acting. Student performance is required.
