Florence Avenue and Grove Street Elementary Schools
Dear Parents/Guardians,
¡Bienvenidos a la clase de Español! Welcome to the Spanish class!
I trust you had a pleasant summer. As we begin this new academic year, I look forward to working with your child in Spanish class. Together, we will continue to strengthen language skills and broaden cultural understanding through the study of Spanish language, music, and traditions.
The Spanish program for grades 4–5 is based on a communicative approach that integrates the four essential language skills: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. These skills are practiced in meaningful contexts that reflect real-life communication. Students will receive Spanish instruction twice a week in 45-minute sessions. To reinforce classroom learning, students will be expected to complete homework assignments as well as periodic projects.
In alignment with the Irvington School District Grading Policy, Spanish classes will use the following grading framework:
- Test – 2 per cycle
- Quiz – 2 per cycle
- Homework – 4 per cycle
- Projects – 1 per cycle
- Classwork – 2 per cycle
To ensure students’ success in achieving this year’s objectives, I am requesting the following materials:
- 1 folder
- 1 Notebook
I look forward to a successful and enriching year with your child. If you would like more details about the curriculum or expectations, or if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
