I have a Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education with certifications in Biology, Social Studies, and Family and Consumer Sciences. I have been teaching for 19 years. My teaching career has consisted of 11 years at the high school level, with the remaining years being spent teaching middle school students. I am married, and between me and my husband we have 5 children. Our lives are constantly busy considering our blended family has children spread out from 6th grade to college. I am excited to have the opportunity to teach your child. Any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at the above email. I look forward to it being a great year!

Course Description: Biology is devoted to the study of living things and their processes. Throughout the year this course provides the opportunity for students to develop scientific processing skills, laboratory techniques, and understand the principles of life. Students will explore the functions of the cell, genetics and heredity, classification and diversity of living organisms, anatomy, and ecological roles of living organisms in our environment. At the end of the year students are required to pass the EOC in Biology with a score of 700 or better to be considered proficient.
Supplies Needed for Class:
· $10.00 lab fee (due by the end of 1st nine week grading period)
· 3 ring binder with loose leaf paper or 3 subject notebook with folder dividers
· 2 dividers (one for bell ringers & one for notes) – if using binder
· pens or pencils (only blue or black ink)
· 2 highlighters
Objectives and Goals:
· Teach students practical and scientific skills, which will engage the student using the new engineering methods to explore the world around them.
· To understand how Biology impacts their daily life.
· To achieve skills and knowledge that will lead to success when taking the EOC at the end of the year.
Student Expectations:
- Be on time and have necessary materials.
- Sit in your assigned seat and begin bell ringer immediately upon entering.
- Be quiet and courteous when others are speaking.
- Enter and exit room quietly.
- Study nightly!!
- Be engaged with a positive attitude!
- Participate in classroom activities and take ownership for your learning.
- No cell phone use or eating/drinking during class, unless allowed by teacher.
- NO SLEEPING!
Discipline:
** Zero tolerance for cheating for all involved.
** We will follow discipline rules and guidelines set by RPSB guidelines and Buckeye High PBIS behavior plan.
** Tardiness and Absences will be enforced through the RPSB policy.
** Sleeping during class will result in a lunch detention.
Make-up Work:
Students will be responsible for all work missed, including daily bellringers. The bell ringers will be geared to preparing for the EOC that will be taken at the end of the year. They will need to copy the bell ringer from their shoulder partner or a friend when absent. It will be their responsibility! Their binder should be with them every day (which is required), so possession of bell ringers should not be an issue when checked for a grade.
Tests will be required to be made up within 5 days of an excused absence. If the absence is unexcused then it will be required the day they return to school. The student should make arrangements with the teacher to make up the test or quiz. Note: My planning period is 7th period, so the student will make up their test during this time or before school. Please make it your responsibility to make arrangements with me to make up your work, since this will revolve around my morning/lunch duty requirements. If a student is absent during a Lab, they will be given an alternate assignment or be required to do the lab at home using their own materials. There will not be a tremendous amount of homework, with the exception of tests. Although, when assigned it will not be accepted late without a doctor’s excuse.
