Welcome students and parents!

My name is Mrs. Melinda LaFleur, and I'm thrilled to be your 3rd Grade Resource teacher!  I'll start by telling you some things about me.  This is my seventh year teaching.  I have been working hard for years to get to be right here where I am with you! I graduated in May 2013 with my degree in Special Education from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.  I am originally from New Orleans where I graduated from Mount Carmel Academy.  My younger brother has Asperger's Syndrome, so I've been an advocate for children with disabilities my entire life.  In my spare time I like to read by the pool, play with my puppy (Elizabeth Taylor), and spend time with my 7 brothers and sisters.

The elementary grades are such an exciting time as students embark upon new learning adventures.  I am looking forward to a very productive year of learning and fun.  In order for me to do this, parents, I need your help.  Teamwork is one of the most important aspects of working with children.  The team that we have assembled at Teche is an incredibly hard working one, but none of what we do can be successful without YOU.  I believe that you and I are a team working together to help your child develop emotionally and academically.  I respect you as a TEACHER in you child's life.  You are the expert on your child, and I hope to learn about him/her through you.

I know that if we all work together and communicate, we will have a very successful year!  Please contact me at any time throughout the year if you have any questions or concerns.  I can be reached at [email protected] or (337)909-2500 ext. 2538. I also use the Remind App daily for communications with parents!

Sincerely,

Melinda LaFleur
