CLASSROOM RULES

These will be written by the students but will include the following:

*being respectful to yourself, others, and school property

*being responsible for your actions

*keeping the environment neat and safe

*following the rules set by the school and other teachers

HOMEWORK

The purpose of homework is to encourage learning outside of the classroom environment and to reinforce skills presented in class.  Please help your child to be responsible and develop positive work habits.  I encourage parental guidance (studying or reading with your child, reading directions, or giving examples).  However, you should not have to reteach a concept or have your child struggle.  If there is a concern or if your child shows signs of frustration, please notify me.  The amount of missed assignments will be reflected in your child's grade.

GRADING

Students will be assessed in various ways.  A percentage is given in each subject area this year.  They will be evaluated based on classroom performance, observations, tests, quizzes (announced and unannounced), projects, and written work.  Please contact me if there are any questions or concerns.  In order to be promoted to the next grade level, students need to attend school on a regular basis, arrive on time, be prepared for class, and successfully complete the fourth grade curriculum.

CONTENT AND TEACHING METHODS

The curriculum is designed to comply with the New Jersey State Standards.

Fourth grade is a year of tremendous growth and independence.  Your child will be exposed to all content areas in a variety of ways.  He/She will be expected to work cooperatively with other students and independently.  I will use whole class instruction, small group, and technology assisted learning.  My belief is that children learn in different ways, so I address that need in my teaching methods.  Fourth grade curriculum will be taught using the following resources:

 Reading (Workshop Model)
