Dear Families of Florence Avenue School,

It is an honor and a tremendous opportunity to be at your service.  As your child's ESL teacher, I would like to introduce myself.  My name is Cathy Laroche Clitus and I come from Haiti.  I've been in the U.S for the past fourteen years and this is my seventh year teaching ESL to students in grades K-2 at Florence Avenue School.

It is important for your child to speak and listen to English both inside and outside the classroom.  One good strategy for students is to turn on English subtitles while watching movies and television. Cooperative learning is an important part of pupils' learning as is class participation. It is expected that students will positively contribute in class activities and complete regular individual homework assignments on their own at home. It is important to remember that individuals learn languages at their own rate.

If you ever have any questions or concerns about your child, please do not hesitate to contact me by e-mail [email protected] or stop by the school to see me personally.

Sincerely,

Cathy Laroche Clitus
