      Philosophy

My philosophy of education begins with student-centered learning. I am a strong supporter of inquiry-based pedagogy and the ways it supports peer-to-peer interaction, using a critical eye when engaging with literacy and using student needs to drive lesson plans and learning activities. In order for students to achieve success, they must feel that they are part of a safe, caring and positive learning community. It is important to ensure such a learning space for students, so that they feel comfortable and confident asking questions and challenging various ideas presented in the classroom. It is imperative that students view school and education in a positive light from a young age. Creating a learning space for students to explore, grow and express themselves is essential to a positive educational experience. Allowing students to bring their cultures and prior knowledge into the classroom helps create a sense of community and self-worth. I hope to provide students with an authentic and meaningful education as well as the tools for success in the future.
