Dear Parents;

 Your child has just started their art class at University Elementary School and I'd like to welcome you to our art program.  Most students have art once to twice a week throughout the school year.  During that time students will learn about art and artists of different times and places and work in a variety of two and three dimensional media.

The main focus of our program is production, or making art.   However, most of our projects are introduced with an art history or appreciation lesson, viewing and discussing the art of a selected period, culture or artist.  Assignments are then given with specific criteria for students to develop in their own artwork and incorporating concepts we have discussed.

Students are assessed on their personal progress in meeting the Irvington School District Visual Arts standards which focus on the learning and skill development inherent in creating and responding to art.

Although we have several important rules that we follow in art class, one of the most important rule is that all scholars should try their very best...Ms. G is happy as long as each child tries.

-We will soon be working with Ms. Cowan (Music Teacher) on a special Hispanic Heritage Month Project

-Red Ribbon Week Artwork.

Please feel free to contact if you have any questions.

Ms. Gianfrancesco (Ms. G)
