 Dear Parents/ Guardians,

I am very pleased to welcome your child to third grade. My name is Nickarson Paul and I will be your child’s Social Studies and Science teacher. Your third grader is in store for many meaningful and challenging experiences.  I am a firm believer in the power of a growth mindset and approach each year with the belief that all of my students are capable of learning and growth. Every day, your child will be immersed in the growth mindset in my classroom. Students will be asked to take educational risks. They will be praised not only for their mental quickness or natural intelligence but for approaching the process of learning with grit and determination. And they will grow in ways they never thought possible.

I would like you to know that I have high expectations for each student.  I want to nurture each student’s love of learning and will strive to provide a positive and safe environment that is conducive to learning.

Essential to your child’s progress in school is your support and involvement. I feel strongly that in order for the school year to be successful, it is necessary for the child, teacher, and parent(s)/guardian(s) to work closely together throughout the school year.

Students will be expected to follow a set of classroom expectations and procedures. Students and I agreed upon expectations during the first week of school. Consequences will be given if a student chooses not to meet classroom expectations. Rewards also are given to the students when they follow the established expectations. This school year, we are also incorporating restorative practices. The aim of restorative practices is to develop community and to manage conflict and tensions by repairing harm and building relationships.  This is our priority as a restorative school.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please send a handwritten note, e-mail(see below), Dojo message me or call the school at (973) 399-6826 to schedule an appointment to meet.

I look forward to the new school year.  I will keep you informed about your child’s progress. With your help and support, we will make this school year a positive learning experience for your child.

Sincerely,

Mr. Paul
