Ms. Mellona Henry – University Elementary School

 

Dear Parents and Guardians,

 

Welcome to our kindergarten classroom! My name is Mellona Henry, and I’m honored to be your child’s teacher this year. With over 20 years of experience in education, I understand how exciting—and sometimes overwhelming—the transition to kindergarten can be. In our classroom, we focus on creating a warm, structured, and engaging learning environment where every child feels safe, valued, and encouraged to grow.

 

Our classroom community is built on respect, responsibility, and a love of learning. We emphasize social-emotional growth just as much as academic success, and we believe in working together—school and home—as partners in your child’s education.

 

🏫 Classroom Routines & Expectations

 

  • Folders & Book Bags
    Please check your child’s folder and book bag daily. Important notices, classwork, and completed or unfinished homework will be sent home in the folder. It’s important to return it each day.

  • Weekly Homework
    Kindergarten homework is sent home on Mondays and is due back by Friday. Homework helps reinforce skills we are practicing in class. Please support your child by reviewing the work with them and encouraging good habits.

  • ClassDojo
    We use ClassDojo as our main communication tool. This app allows me to share classroom updates, photos, student achievements, reminders, and behavior reports. You’ll also be able to message me directly.
    A form or invitation will be sent home with instructions on how to sign up. I encourage you to join as soon as possible to stay connected with everything happening in our class.
