Cimo Spelling Sight This is a great app for kindergarten through 3rd grade children. It teaches a combination of high frequency and sight words (from the Dolch Sight Word list). The list of 50 words was selected to cover words that a child encounters most often when learning to read (high frequency), including words that cannot be learned using pictures (sight words). Learning to spell these words adds to a strong foundation in reading and spelling for beginning readers. In this game, your child will help Cimo the penguin reach an iceberg to catch fish. Each correct letter chosen adds a block to his bridge. Finish the word and Cimo can cross, but watch out for wrong letters, or Cimo will take a dip! This is the fun game to improve your child’s spelling abilities.

Also included is a progress report for parents. The report allows them to track their child’s performance in spelling the sight and high frequency words, and provides play history with game details (i.e, On this date, your child has played level 1 and level 2 and in each game, what item has been asked and what your child has answered). An additional setup option allows for a parent or teacher to customize the number of questions to match their child. In this new version, we add the options for self correction (i.e, kids could correct their answer in the second try) and clearing out all the reports. This game will help your child improve their reading skills in a fun and interactive environment.

The game uses the Montessori Method for children to learn the phonics and spelling. It develops the kids hearing, learning, spelling, and pronunciation of the words. It is ideal for self-paced learning or home schooling.

This game teaches vowel sounds and their letter combinations in 30 different groups:

“_an”, “_at”, “_en”, “_et”, “_ig”, “_it”, “_ip”, “_og”, “_op”, “_ot”, “_ug”, “_ay”, “_ow”, “_oy”, “_a_e”, “_ee_”, “_i_e”, “_o_e”, “_u_e”, “_an_”, “_ai_”, “_ar_”, “_er_”, “_ea_”, “_ir_”, “_oo_”, “_oa_”, “_or_”, “_ink”, “_ear”

Really the application thats needed to master these 150 words.

Remember repetition helps to memorize these words, so more the kids use the app the better they start to get with these words.

Kids get early exposure to, easy spellings like car, dog, cat to tough ones like zebra, pizza, truck, onion etc.

Each category starts with easy words and move towards difficult ones. The ‘Other’ category has the most common words that the kids must know and has the most words among all the category.

Sound Literacy If you use an Orton-Gillingham influenced program, this app will make perfect sense! If you are a parent that wants to reinforce the phonics principles that your child is being taught in school this app will help.

The particular methodology, approach, specific language for spelling rules, and the sequence of presenting the knowledge is  left up to the teacher and determined by the needs of the student(s).

Unlike individualized computer software instruction, Sound Literacy is intended to facilitate interaction between a teacher and student(s). An instructor is needed to demonstrate concepts and skills as well as guide practice sessions with student(s).  Sound Literacy can be used in conjunction with any curriculum that emphasizes phonemic awareness, phonological processing, systematic phonetic instruction, or word building with ‘meaningful word parts’.

Sound Literacy features:

• Blank tiles for counting, ordering, and manipulating the phonemes within words

• Tiles organized in pantries and ready to be pulled onto the workspace for spelling words

• A workspace for ‘tapping’ and creating boxes for the tiles to be placed in

• Six specially designed ladders for building and comparing phonemes

• Unique phonetically ordered consonant and vowel phoneme maps

• Popovers on the sound maps that indicate various ways to spell each phoneme; spellings are ordered from the most common to the least common

• Included on the popovers, are the origins of some spellings which help to categorize and make sense of a seemingly irregular spelling system

Super Speller Each week children all over the world bring home a list of words to study for their weekly spelling / vocabulary tests at school. Studying for these tests can be ineffective, frustrating, and let’s face it, boring for both kids and parents. Super Speller was created to solve all of these problems.

Our app was designed, from the beginning, to address the needs of real kids studying for tests that they are graded on at school. You see, our own son struggled with spelling and though we practiced with him often, he was easily frustrated with these study sessions. And though we did our best to patiently work with him, it could be trying for us as well. There had to be a better way. That’s when we had the idea for Super Speller.

Super Speller was truly a family project. Our main goal was to create an app that made studying easy and fun. As the app grew, our son was able to tell us what did and didn’t work for him, what was confusing, and what made him smile. And we were able to add the things we needed, as parents, to make sure he was making progress and studying each week. We even included friends and neighbors by adding the ability to share spelling tests with one another. We knew we were on to something when one of our friends remarked “you know it’s a good app when your kid brings you the iPad and asks ‘Mom, can you please make me another spelling test?’”. And our son? Since using Super Speller he has scored a 100 or better on every single test at school. It’s made such a difference that even his teacher contacted us to find out what he’s been doing differently!

Here’s how it works:
1. Your child brings home their spelling / vocabulary words from school.
2. You or your child add the words to Super Speller and record the word and a short sentence if you like.
3. Your child can then study those words in several ways and, when they’re ready, take a test.
4. Parents can check the results of each test and identify words that might require a little extra help.
5. Your child takes the real test at school, gets good grades, grows up to be a doctor*, and buys you nice things**!

* We can’t currently guarantee the doctor thing.
** Or the buying of nice things.

Super Speller lets your child study at their own pace in several different ways:
★ A practice test with a fun character that provides feedback based on the spelling of the word. Spell it correctly and his smile gets bigger. Misspell a letter and he becomes concerned. Misspell a lot and, well, lets just say the poor guy can get very distraught when it comes to badly misspelled words.
★ Word Search Puzzles created from your weekly spelling words. Each word search puzzle is generated randomly so you’re virtually assured of getting a different puzzle each time.
★ Good old fashioned memorization. In addition to a list of the spelling words, you can access a dictionary entry for each word. Perfect for vocabulary tests or spelling bee contestants looking for an edge in the next competition.

These are just a few of the features that we’ve added to Super Speller. Super Speller also has different themes, a fun celebration event with balloons you can toss around or pop, a test timer, word shuffle, support for diacriticals, and more.

Teacher Tools Do the same one or two hands always pop up when you ask a question in your classroom? The Teacher Tools – Who’s Next? app will shake things up for your class by allowing you to call on students randomly and even create randomized work groups!

Grab the app today to start realizing the benfits of random calling and random groups in your classroom immediately. Benefits include:

- Makes all students in the class accountable for the lesson information at all times.
- Eliminates any possible bias; no students will be called on too little or too much.
- Saves time when splitting class into groups for assignments.
- Helps with classroom management by not allowing students to pick their own groups.
- Simple to set up, takes just a couple of minutes to create a class and enter student names.
- Great way to use technology in the classroom and keep students engaged.

Calling on students randomly has been proven to have positive effects on learning by holding everyone equally accountable for the lesson. But implementing this differentiated instruction in the classroom is often a pain since it requires teachers to assign numbers to each pupil or number the desks, and then find a method for generating random numbers.

The Teacher Tools – Who’s Next app makes the process simple! Just take a couple of minutes to set up your classes in the app, and you can start calling on students randomly any time in just seconds. To call the next student, just shake your iPhone or iPod Touch or tap a button on the screen. No one will be called on to little or too much and everyone will be participating in the lesson, knowing they can be called on at any time.

Do you draw a blank when it’s time to break students up into groups? The app also allows you to create random groups to make group work quicker and help with classroom management by making sure the same students don’t always work together. Just choose the class and the number of groups you want to break the class into, and a list of the groups will appear. The groups are even given optional names that can help spark students’ creativity.
