The purpose of this organization is to stimulate interest in the study of the Italian language, to give recognition for distinguished achievement in Italian, and to promote an understanding and appreciation of the Italian culture and civilization
In the National Italian Honor Society, the students selected are those that have demonstrated support and promotion of academic
excellence. Students must demonstrate, leadership potential, foster the development of a strong moral character and encourage loyalty to the school and community.
The Società Onoraria Italica, The National Italian Honor Society for High School Students, is sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Italian.The American Association of Teachers of Italian was founded in 1924 to promote the study of Italian language, literature, and culture in schools, colleges and universities in North America.
The candidate must have taken 3 semesters or more of Italian with an average of 90% for the 3 semesters and plan to take a 4th year of Italian as well. In addition they must have an overall scholarship record of 80% or above. The completion of their induction will require students to serve in the community.
