"Physical Education is the only subject which, by the very nature of it's content, has the potential to affect how a person will feel every moment of every day for the rest of his or her life."

-Allen Russell

 Philosophy

Physical education enables all students to sustain regular, lifelong physical activity as a foundation for a healthy, productive, and fulfilling life.

When bodies move, learning improves

Did you know physical exercise benefits the brain? Over a decade of research shows that engaging in regular physical activity has a postive impact on academic performance.  Check out the 'Exercise Makes You Smarter' link on the right side of the page.

FitnessGram

The Fitnessgram is an assessment tool that enables students to become more knowledgeable about their own fitness levels and reinforces the importance of regular physical activity.

There are several components to health-related physical fitness: aerobic capacity; body composition; and muscular strength, endurance and flexibility. The test items include the pacer test, mile run, curl-ups, sit and reach and flexed arm hang. Each test has a related “Healthy Fitness Zone” associated with it so that children learn that extremely high levels of fitness are admirable, but not necessary to accomplish a healthy lifestyle.
