Mrs. Cherie Sinor

Special Education Teacher (small group instruction) - 4th, 5th, 6th grade

Educational Background:

  • graduate of Rowan University
  • dual certified K - 12 special education and elementary education K-5
  • Wilson Reading System certification

Experience:

This is my 21st year working as a special education teacher in South Harrison. Over those years, I have taught Language Arts, Reading, and Math for almost every grade level either through small-group or in-class support. Throughout those years, I taught 4th, 5th, and 6th grade primarily. I have also provided in class support for social studies and science. Prior to my teaching career, I worked as a residential program manager for 9 years with adults with disabilities.

My Philosophy:

All children are learners and will continue to be throughout their lives. Students need to be met where they are, given the supports to move forward, and celebrated as they meet the challenges placed before them. My job is not only to educate them, but to be someone who will be in their corner even if they have made some poor decisions. I will be there to lift them up, but also to tell them to turn things around. My hope is to make an imprint on my students academically, emotionally, and socially and open their minds to the possibilities that are ahead of them.

About Me:

-   I have been married to my husband, Bill, for almost 23 years and I have two sons. Gabriel is a senior in high school and Aaron is a seventh grader. As a family, we love spending time together visiting new places, hiking, biking, watching movies, and playing board games. Our Monopoly games can get pretty intense!

-   I have two looney rescue lab mix dogs named Ellie and Mia.

-   I enjoy antiquing and visiting historical places and gardens.

-   I love crafting and being creative whenever I get the chance.

-   I love watching gardening and decorating videos on youtube!

-   I enjoy vacationing in new places with my family. This year we visited National Harbor in Maryland. We spent a few days in Washington D.C. exploring the national monuments and memorials. Mount Vernon was one of my favorite places to visit because of the historical information we learned as well as the beautiful gardens.

-   Working in my flower garden is one of my favorite things to do! It's been tons of work, but I love adding plants for pollinators and trying lots of new and creative things. I call it my HAPPY place.

-   During the summer, I spend time at a pool/lake club and take day trips to many different places with my family.

Final Thoughts:

With all the changes and challenges in education nowadays, it's interesting for me to see education from the perspective of a parent and not just a teacher. I am excited to be partnering with teachers, students, parents, and administration to make this an exceptional year of learning, experiences, and trying new things.
