Mr. Alfieri 7th Grade English and Language Arts
The 7th grade ELA curriculum is designed to develop literary and informational reading skills. The students will be consistently learning and practicing literary reading skills that will be applied to novels. The students will enhance their knowledge of how to analyze literary texts so that they can ultimately enjoy reading more. In addition, the students will practice reading informative nonfiction texts related to the content and themes presented in the novel. The students will be given the opportunity to have class discussions and debates to share their ideas and develop their understanding of various topics.
Writing will be a major form of assessment throughout the 7th grade year. The students will be expected to follow a precise writing format. It is designed to help them put their thoughts into text in an organized and clear manner. The students will receive digital copies of all the necessary notes for completing written assignments. It is strongly advised that during the beginning weeks of school the students use the notes each time they write (unless directed otherwise). This will help build a strong foundation for later in the year.
An additional objective for the school year is developing a more advanced vocabulary. Each week students will receive a new academically challenging list ranging from 15-20 words. They will receive the definitions, context examples, and practice exercises.
