Research Labs and Writing: U.S. States

 

Reading, Writing, and Research 

 

  1. Building knowledge through content-rich nonfiction

  2. Reading, writing, and speaking grounded in evidence from the text, both literary and informational

  3. Regular practice with complex text and its academic language

 

The students will be working individually, in small groups, and have whole group discussions. The primary goal of the Research Library to capture and engage students in studying the Unit. The students will also begin to notice academics and vocabulary. 

 

Mission: Educators cultivate an intellectual community in which individual students from all reading proficiency levels, language backgrounds, and neighborhoods develop grade-level expertise in Science or Social Studies content AND ELA Reading and Writing Standards through their daily reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
