Tips for Parents
* Make a daily schedule including activities that are both high and low energy. For example after writing sentences or doing a math lesson take a movement break
* If your child reaches his or her frustration level on a certain assignment stop and go back to it later.
* Balance your day with physical activity at least 20 minutes per day.
* Get organized. Have a specific place to do work. Make sure to have good lighting and no TV on. Keep supplies readily available.
* Find a time to do work when there are minimal distractions from younger siblings and give your child your complete attention.
* Stay hydrated and take bathroom breaks.
* Go from paper and pencil activities to online.
* Guide your child and demonstrate when necessary what outcome you would like. Ex- Write 2 sentences using 2 specific sight words. You may model it and then put it away.
* Praise your child often and give specific ways to improve an assignment, ex- "I think we can make this neater" or "slow down and do your best".
