August 2024

Dear friends and families,

Welcome to Kindergarten!  We have an exciting and rewarding year ahead of us, and I look forward to working with all of you!  Here is some information that will help you with school routines.

โญ๏ธ Specials:

We use a five day schedule in Washington Township.  The first day of school will be “day 1.”  Whenever there is a day off, we continue our “days” on the day we return to school.

Our schedule works in this rotation:

 Day 1: ๐ŸŽจArt

 Day 2:๐ŸŒŽSpanish

 Day 3: ๐Ÿ‘Ÿ๐ŸŽGym/Health

 Day 4: ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ’ปLibrary/Computers

 Day 5:  ๐ŸŽตMusic

๐Ÿ• Lunch:

Kindergarten will be eating lunch in the cafeteria.  Children may bring or buy lunch.  If your child is bringing from home, please make sure to label his/her lunchbox and practice opening and closing all packaging and containers. Please see the OFRS site for more details and protocol for lunch buyers.

๐ŸŽ Snack:

Please send in a small, healthy snack and drink every day.  No nuts or peanut butter products may be eaten in the classroom.  For the safety of our children, please check all labels.  Snacks may come to school in your child’s lunchbox or be packed separately. Water bottles are particularly important as the water fountain in the classroom will not be an option. Please send your child with a full, labeled water bottle each day.

๐Ÿ“‚ Folder:

We will provide a folder for your child to use. Please check and empty the folder daily.  Anything that you send into school should go in that folder (including lunch order tickets). The folder needs to be returned to school each day.

๐Ÿฅณ Birthdays:

We love to celebrate birthdays in school, but we do so without food. Some options for celebrating include: the birthday child bringing small items to give to classmates (pencils, erasers, bubbles, etc), having a guest reader join us to read a special book to the class, or sending in special napkins to enjoy for our snack time. We also have a wonderful birthday celebration experience that we will enjoy together no matter what!

You can try out our celebration at home too!

๐Ÿ ๐ŸšŒ Home/School Communication:

We will be using Seesaw Learning Portfolios for much of our communication.  You will receive personalized information about accessing your child's portfolio with your beginning of school paperwork.  We will also explore this platform more on Back to School night.  Please make sure I have your updated email address so that we can stay connected that way as well.  If you need to contact me, email  ([email protected]) will work best.  It is with tremendous joy that I begin this journey with your family!  Please know that, above all, your child is in a place where he/she will be supported, safe, and loved.  Here’s to an amazing adventure in learning and growing!

With Gratitude,

Jessica Twomey
