Hi!!! I'm Mrs. Krista Hopper

I am SO excited to have your child in my class! We have a wonderful year ahead of us! Before we get started, I wanted to take this opportunity to let you know a little bit about me and my classroom.

I was born in Belleville, Ontario, Canada, and lived there for 10 years. Then, we moved to Hershey, Pennsylvania, and lived there for 11 years. I’ve lived in Cape Coral/Fort Myers for 19 years now with my daughter, Elyana (who attends Florida Gulf Coast University). I graduated from Florida Gulf Coast University with my Bachelor’s in 2005 and in 2008, I graduated from Grand Canyon University with my Master’s Degree. I got married in 2018. I enjoy reading, bowling, roller skating, cooking, and spending time with my family. I love animals! We have 3 cats, a dog, a lizard, a hamster, and some fish! I love traveling to new places and spending quality time with my family and friends!

For the past 15 years, I have taught Kindergarten. I taught at Tropic Isles Elementary in North Fort Myers for 12 years. Now, I am entering into my 16th year of teaching and my fourth year of teaching at Ray V. Pottorf Elementary School! I LOVE being a part of the Ray V. Pottorf Family!

Kindergarten is an exciting and scary time for our students! It’s a time for exploring so many new things, places, and an amazing time to learn. I understand it is hard to leave your child in the care of someone else, but I am here to help your child grow and have fun! I have some great ideas that I will implement to assist in the blossoming of your child’s talents and I will remediate any areas that could use improvement. I want to instill a love of learning to all my students. I teach with passion so my students develop a desire to become life-long learners!

This year we will be learning letters, sounds, and learning to read! We learn about our community and explore the world around us. We will learn to cut and paste and draw and color. We will learn to problem solve and be creative thinkers. We will learn how to be good students in school and how to be friends with our classmates. We will learn to be respectful, responsible, and safe! We will learn how to do our best and how to say “I’m learning how to…” instead of “I can’t…” And so, so much more!

Our classroom is a very busy learning environment! Our classroom is structured by a variety of hands-on learning activities, games, and learning centers. I set very high expectations for each and every student in my class because I know that every child can succeed. I hope you will help by taking time to talk to your child each day about what we did at school and what we learned. Talk to them about rules and our classroom mission statement and how important it is to follow our mission statement and work hard. Together, we can encourage your child's successes!

I ask that you read with your child every night and also give them time to play! Practice letters and letter sounds and numbers and counting. All of this combines to give your child a great education. And please make sure we get lots of sleep every night because we work hard and have lots of fun in our classroom and we need our rest.

I am open to and welcome your thoughts and comments.  If at any time you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.  You can email me at [email protected] or message me on our Class Dojo. Your child's education is a team effort and I am looking forward to working with you and your child for a great year in Kindergarten!
