Spring Time Visual Motor Skills
Coordinating eyes and limbs to carry out planned movements requires years of practice. These skills come together in order to develop the ability to manipulate increasing more refined tools. Handwriting and reading are two functions that are affected by this practice. TV watching and computer games have a constant focal point and does not encourage eye muscle development compared to when asked to focus from far point to near point. Now that the weather is getting warmer encourage out side games. Exercise the eyes by some of the following activities
- Watching kids run around the playground.
- Kick a ball then run and get it
- Kick a ball rolled to your child
- Watch a bug crawl across a plant or table or a squirrel climb a tree
- Play catch
- Draw in the sand or dirt with a stick
- Draw with sidewalk chalk on the driveway
- Scoop up different sized items (beads, buttons, macaroni) with a spoon and sort them to the sections in a muffin tins
