ABOUT YOUR TEACHER

Hello!  My name is Mrs. Heck and I am teaching fourth grade in the George J. Mitchell Elementary School.  I am originally from Bulls Gap, Tennessee.   I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology, and my Master of Arts degree in Anthropology from the University of Tennessee.  These degrees allowed me to work as an archaeologist for many years.  I've excavated and analyzed artifacts from the Southeastern United States and the Western Pacific.  I spent the majority of my working career as an anthropologist on the Pacific island of Guam.

After I returned to the mainland United States, I met and married Mr. Heck.  We've been married 22 years and have three wonderful children.  Luckily, I was able to be a stay-at-home mom while the kids were little.  Once our youngest started Preschool, I decided to return to the workforce.  However, the life of an archaeologist traveling from site to site was not a good fit for my family.  I had to find another career!

So, after substitute teaching in the Little Egg Harbor School District for two years, I realized I loved teaching!  I am fortunate to have an understanding family that allowed me to go back to the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey for yet another degree-this time in Elementary Education!  I received this degree in 2010, and was hired in 2012, in the Little Egg Harbor School District as the Part-Time Gifted and Talented Teacher.

I worked as the Gifted and Talented Teacher for 5 years, dividing my time between the George J. Mitchell Elementary School and the Frog Pond Elementary School.

I am so excited to be working in this school district and with such wonderful students.  If you need to contact me for any reason, please feel free to send in a note or write an e-mail and I will get back to you as soon as possible!

Thank you!

Mrs. Heck
