Welcome to a new school year at Midway Middle School. I am very happy to have your child in my Earth Science classroom. I believe that with everyone working together we can make this a very successful year.
Your child will need several supplies for science this school year. Your child will need a one-inch 3-ring binder, 10 tabbed dividers for binder, a composition notebook, colored pencils, paper, pencils, and ear buds. Ink will NOT be accepted for any reason on any assignment including homework. I will have some crayons, enclosed pencil sharperner, scissors and glue for projects / labs but it is always a good idea for students to have those on hand (or in their locker-not given at this time) throughout the school year.
Additionally, I will have tutorial once a week (TBA). This time will provide your child with additional help or the chance to retake a test or quiz (within the current 9-week period) he/she may have missed or didn’t do as well on as they would have liked. You will need to sign a permission slip or complete a request to retest for your child if they plan to remain afterschool. They MUST be picked up in the front of the building no later than 4:35 pm.
Finally, I am passionate about teaching and the learning process. So, it is my goal to help each student become a responsible, respectful, and productive young adult. However, I truly believe you are the key to your child’s education. Therefore, it is of prime importance that you are actively involved and a part of your child's daily educational experiences. I encourage you to stop by Student Services for a user name and password for Parent Portal. This will give you constant access to your child’s grades. It would also be beneficial for you to sign up for Remind 101 by texting @ctupper to 81010. I will be sending information regarding upcoming events and projects via text message. Furthermore, my website is updated weekly with what we are covering in class, homework assignments, upcoming tests/quizzes and other important information.
