PHYSICAL EDUCATION I-IV SYLLABUS Class Period: _____________
Course Description: Physical Education is designed to lay the ground work for teens to develop a physically healthy lifestyle. The student will learn the importance of maintaining good physical health and how it effects their overall health. Students will learn how to develop a pattern of lifelong physical fitness. Students will be introduced to healthy social interaction and the importance of good sportsmanship.
Materials Needed: Required Rapides Parish PE Uniform- cost shorts $10.00 & shirt $10.00= $20.00
Tennis shoes or non-slide rubber sole shoes. NO boots, sandals or athletic sandals.
You may wear sweat pants or wind pants in the following colors: black, gray or red.
Combination lock or key lock for your locker. I must have extra key or your combination.
Grading Scale: Grade scale will follow the Rapides Parish Policy:
A= 93-100, B= 85-92, C= 75-84, D= 67-74, F=66-0
Grading Policy: You will have the chance to earn 20 points per day, 5 points for proper dress code,
5 points for exercise routine performance, and 10 points for sport participation and
skill level demonstrated. Written test worth 100 points will be given over major
sport units only.
Excused No Dress: A note from a doctor or parent is considered an excuse no dress. In order to obtain your 20 points you are required to write a 3 page report from the Health textbook. This will earn you that day’s points. However, please make use the injury truly require you not to dress out. Limit to 3 parents notes per semester.
Unexcused No Dress: When a student chooses not to dress and participate. She will be given an “X” for the day. She will be required to write a 3-page report from the Health textbook, which will allow her to get credit for 10 points out of the 20 points for the day. Refusal to write the report will result in a state discipline form for willful disobedience.
1st infraction=grade- A; verbal warning
2nd infraction= grade- B; given lunch detention
3rd infraction= grade- C; rules writing assignment
4th infraction & repeated= write up/ ISS
5th infraction & repeated= write up
STUDENT RESPONSIBILITY:
- Get to class on time with proper material for daily dress and participation of sport activity
- Getting dressed out and remaining in the dress room until whistle call for exercise line formation.
- Respect for teacher and fellow students
- To keep all-personal items locked safely in your PE locker.
Classroom Rules:
- Must be in dress room area before the tardy bell rings.
- Refrain from taking other students property.
- NO eating or drinking in the gym. NO gum
- NO OFFENSIVE LANGUAGE - NO BULLYING
- No destruction or defacing of school property in the gym, dressing room, weight room or bathroom.
- NO CELL PHONES, HEADPHONES OR EAR BUDS. If seen or heard they will be taken and $15.00 fine
- Remain in designated areas only. Do not go past bathroom opening.
Rentals: If you forgot your uniform or shoes, you may rent a uniform for 25 cents. You may rent shoes and socks
For 25 cents.
Illness: Please let me know if you are diabetic, have asthma, allergic reaction, heart condition, or other illness.
Official Dress Day: We will begin dressing out on Wednesday, August 12th. You may wear any pair of athletic shorts and t-shirt without losing 5 points through September 4th. When we return from Labor Day, on September 8th you must be in full Rapides Parish PE uniform. If your family has a financial issue they only need to contact me so we can work out a solution.
