Earth Hour - Saturday, March 23rd 8:30 - 9:30
What Is Earth Hour?
On March 23, 2013, at 8:30 PM, millions of people around the world will come together to take a stand to protect our planet against a problem called climate change. They will do something quite simple – turn off their lights for just one hour and show that one person can make a difference and millions of people working together can change the world.
In 2006, World Wildlife Fund-Australia inspired Sydney to show their support for climate change action in the first ever Earth Hour event. It showed that everyone, from children to CEOs and politicians, has the power to change the world they live in.
In 2011, Earth Hour saw hundreds of millions of people across 135 countries switch off for an hour. But it also marked the start of something new – going Beyond the Hour to commit to lasting action on climate change. And with the power of social networks behind the Earth Hour message, we hope to attract even more participation so we can build a truly global community committed to creating a more sustainable planet.
Join the world this year for Earth Hour 2013!
The Iditarod starts on Saturday, 3/2!
We are reading the book Stone Fox and learning more about dog sled racing.
Our class will be following two mushers as they complete the 1,049 mile Iditarod race. Good luck Angie Taggart and Lance Mackey!
Iditarod Update:
Okay, so we ended up following more than two mushers! It was a great race and we learned a lot about race strategy, the dogs, the history of the Iditarod, and Alaska!
Congratuations to the 2013 winner, Mitch Seavey! He is the father of Dallas Seavey, the 2012 Iditarod Winner. Also, congratulations to Aliy Zirkle who came in a close second!
