Howell Township Public Schools

Instrumental Music Department

Dear 4th Grade Parents/Guardians,

Your child recently saw a virtual band demonstration explaining how to participate in the Instrumental Music Program. Instrumental music instruction will occur virtually and/or in person according to the designated phases of the Howell Township Schools Responsive Return Plan. The district is starting the school year in Phase 1 and band instruction will be done remotely during this phase. Your child will need to log into Schoology to complete the weekly assignments, as well as, be available and participate in additional forms of electronic communications.

The following instruments are taught:

Flute, Clarinet, ALTO Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone and Bell Kit (Keyboard Percussion)**

**Please note: Only Bell Kits will be offered to 4th grade students interested in a percussion instrument at this time.

How Much Does It Cost?

Your only expense will be to provide your child with an instrument in good working order and the
Measures of Success Book 1. Instrumental music instruction is absolutely FREE!

How Do I Get an Instrument for My Child?

You may buy, rent or borrow from any source.

If you choose to rent an instrument, we have for your convenience, included a recommended rental company for your consideration. Instrument rental information, pricing, instrument home delivery/in-store pick up and payment options can be found on their website. All transactions are done directly through the rental company.

If you intend to purchase or borrow an instrument from another source (i.e. internet, Amazon, eBay, neighbor, family member) please consult your school band director first so we can assist you in determining the quality of the instrument you are considering. All instruments need to be in excellent working condition.

*Clarinet and saxophone players will need to purchase reeds in order for the instrument to work.
We recommend a minimum of 3 working reeds at all times.

I would love to work with your child!  Their success in this content area will be directly proportional to the amount of time they spend practicing the instrument at home. Please complete the permission slip included and scan it my email address.

Thank you in advance for giving your child the wonderful opportunity to benefit from this educational experience. Please feel free to email with any questions or concerns at  [email protected]

Regards,
