Grading:

Grading will be done based on a percentage system. The percentage breakdown is as follows:

  • Tests/ Writings / Projects/ End of Unit Assessment} 50%

  • Quizzes} 20%

  • Homework/Classwork/ Class Participation} 30%

*The number of homework assignments for each marking period varies depending on what we are covering in class. Homework/classwork can be collected at any time. Therefore, it is extremely important that you are always prepared for class and work to the best of your ability.

*In this class, homework is either complete or it is not. If the homework assignment is not complete, then you will not receive credit for the work. If you are struggling with a particular question or concept from the homework, take an educated guess. Again, you will not receive credit for an incomplete homework assignment. Partial credit will not be given for incomplete assignments.

*For participation, I keep track of your participation and behavior. If you are late, sleeping, inattentive, or disruptive, you will lose points.

*Please check Google Classroom every day for reminders and due dates

Late Work Policy:

  • I do not accept late homework. If there is an extenuating circumstance, please speak to me, but the late grade penalty will be a 60%.
  • Essays are docked 5 points for each day the assignment is late.
  • If at any time you miss class (sick, nurse, field trip), it is your responsibility to get the work to me or the grade will remain a zero. I WILL NOT ask you for missing assignments.

Curriculum:

  • Marking Period One: Short Story/Nonfiction Unit
  • Marking Period Two: Novel Unit
  • Marking Period Three: Novel Unit
  • Marking Period Four: Drama Unit

Classroom Rules:

  • Come to class PREPARED! This means having all necessary materials for the class such as textbooks, notebook, pen, etc. You will not be permitted to go to your locker to retrieve forgotten items, including homework! Failure to bring needed materials could affect your grade.

  • Lateness to class will not be tolerated! You will need a pass from a teacher to prevent any consequences.

  • You may not use your cellphone or charge your cellphone during class. Airpods/headphones are also not permitted in class. When you enter the classroom, your cell phone and headphones should already be away. Breaking this rule will result in a referral.

  • Be in your seat when the bell rings and ready to start class. Have your homework out from the night before and begin working on the warm-up assignment. Failure to follow this rule could result in you being counted as absent or as late to class! We work bell to bell. Please do not pack up your belongings early!

  • No eating in class. Food is a distraction in a quiet classroom.

  • Utilize your pass wisely. I do not allow students to leave the classroom to go to the school store, bagel shop, or to drop work off to another teacher. These things should be handled during homeroom or study hall.

  • ALWAYS be respectful. I will treat all of you with respect and expect the same from each and every one of you. If any sign of disrespect is displayed in this class, a discipline action will be taken. If there is a problem due to a difference of opinions, please address it in a mature manner or see me after class. Respect between classmates is expected as well.
