Understanding Common Core Standards
Sixth Grade will be focusing on four areas of Mathematics:
1. Understanding and using ratios and rates
2. Extending the Number Sytem to include all rational numbers, positive and negative
3. Writing, interpreting, and using expressions and equations
4. Statistical thinking
Seventh Grade will be focusing on four areas of Mathematics:
1. Understanding and applying proportional relationships
2. Operations with rational numbers and working with expressions and linear relationships
3. Scale drawings, area, surface area, and volume
4. Drawing inferences about populations based on samples
Eighth Grade will be focusing on three areas of Mathematics:
1. Formulating and reasoning about expressions and equations
2. Grasping the concept of a function and using functions to describe quatitative relationships
3. Analyzing two and three dimensional space and figures
