Dear Boys and Girls,
I am so excited to have each and every one of you in my class this coming school year! This year promises to be a great one, full of new experiences and lots of fun. In fact, I bet second grade will probably be your favorite grade by the time June comes again! In second grade we will do many of the same things that you did in first grade. We will read lots of books! We will also have writer’s workshop, math, social studies, and science.
Second grade comes with some new responsibilities, like copying your homework into your very own agenda each night. You will also use a writer’s notebook to write all kinds of fun and interesting stories.
I am also happy to announce that we will have a student teacher with us until early December this year. Ms. Cilurso comes to us from Rowan University and completed her practicum with my class last year. She is a wonderful person who knows her stuff and is a huge Disney fan! I know she looks forward to meeting all of you as well.
For the first day of school, please bring in a favorite picture from this summer to share with the class (make sure it is okay for us to keep it). It can be of you at the beach, on vacation, at the pool, playing sports, or anything you really enjoyed doing this summer. It can be a photograph or a drawing.
Please be sure to pack a healthy snack and a water bottle on the first day. You may bring in a snack on half days throughout the year. You may want to bring a water bottle on hot weather days.
I have enclosed a list of school supplies you will need for second grade (I saw many of these supplies at the local dollar store and 5 Below). Please bring these items to school on the first day. I look forward to getting to know all of you! Have a wonderful summer and I will see you in September!
