AP BIOLOGY is a six credit laboratory course designed to help students develop a conceptual framework for modern biology. This course is structured to prepare students for the AP Biology exam. Primary emphasis in advanced placement biology is on developing an understanding of concepts. Essential to this conceptual understanding are the following: a grasp of science as a process rather than an accumulation of facts; personal experience in scientific inquiry; recognition of unifying themes that integrate the major topics of biology; and application of biological knowledge and critical thinking to environmental studies. The AP Biology course is designed to be taken by students after the successful completion of high school biology and high school chemistry. It aims to provide students with the conceptual framework, factual knowledge, and analytical skills necessary to deal critically with the rapidly changing science of biology.

Summer Project:
For Chapters 3, 4, 5 and 8:
***READ each chapter and chapter review, DO all the “Concept Check” questions throughout and “Test Your Understanding” questions LEVEL 1 & 2 at the end of each chapter. We will have a test on these four chapters the first week of school.***
It’s really not as much as it may seem (after all … you remember everything from Biology, right?).
Remember that you need to UNDERSTAND all the information for class and the AP test, so just getting the right answers without really knowing what you’re talking about is worthless.
This assignment must be neatly hand-written and is due in my school mailbox by August 25th. Email questions to [email protected] . Enjoy!
