I hope your school year is filled with lots of reading.  To challenge yourself, keep a reading log.  If you can't think of something to write, select from one of the response ideas below...

Summarize:  Write a summary about the picture book, short story, non-fiction text or a chapter of your independent reading book.

Predict:  Make a prediction about what you think may happen next.  Be sure to tell why you think your prediction will happen.

Evaluate:  Tell what you liked or didn’t like about the text.  Be sure to include why.  OR  Tell what you liked or didn’t like about a character or the way he/she acted.  Be sure to include why.

Question:  Write a question you had while reading.  Was the questioned answered?  What made you think of this question?

Connect:  What did this text make you think of?  Why?  (If you are writing a connection be sure you are able to tell how the connection helped you understand the text better.)

Visualize:  Write a description about what you pictured in your mind while you read the text.  Be sure to include why.
