Responding to Text
I hope your school year is filled with lots of reading. To challenge yourself, keep a reading log. If you can't think of something to write, select from one of the response ideas below...
Summarize: Write a summary about the picture book, short story, non-fiction text or a chapter of your independent reading book.
Predict: Make a prediction about what you think may happen next. Be sure to tell why you think your prediction will happen.
Evaluate: Tell what you liked or didn’t like about the text. Be sure to include why. OR Tell what you liked or didn’t like about a character or the way he/she acted. Be sure to include why.
Question: Write a question you had while reading. Was the questioned answered? What made you think of this question?
Connect: What did this text make you think of? Why? (If you are writing a connection be sure you are able to tell how the connection helped you understand the text better.)
Visualize: Write a description about what you pictured in your mind while you read the text. Be sure to include why.
