About Your Director

 

Mrs. Kane is currently enjoying her 11th year as a strings teacher at Hillside Intermediate School.  She graduated with honors from The College of New Jersey with her bachelors of music degree music education, and later completed her masters of music from Hunter College City University of New York in ethnomusicology.  She is both a professional violinist and vocalist and enjoys performing outside of school.  She is currently involved as a performer with the New Jersey Choral Society and also functions as their audience lecturerer and leads adult education initiatives for this chorus.  She is looking forward to this June's performance of Beethoven Masterworks, entitled, "Immortal Beethoven" which will be a collaboration between Orchestra Nexus and New Jersey Choral Society.  Works from these concerts will also be performed in 2019 at the Normandy Festival in France.  Mrs. Kane is an active member of the National Association for Music Education, American String Teacher's Association, Society for Ethnomusicology, and National Association for Gifted Children.

 

Mrs. Kane is proud to share that she is  a national committee member for the National Association for Gifted Children.  This group seeks to publish books, magazines, and curriculum materials within the gifted child community.  Her expertise in the arts and experience as a teacher is helping in the process of book aqusition and curriculum design to further student resources and improve student engagement in cross curricular and diversified manners.  She is excited to share her findings with the students of BR.  

 

Mrs. Kane is also a student, and is currently involved with course work leading towards her DMA in Music Education through Boston University.  

 

Mrs. Kane is the proud mother of 2 little girls and enjoys spending as much time as possible with her family.
