Overview

American History is an EOC assessed course.  All information covered throughout the year will be needed for the EOC.  Students are expected to master the following areas in American History:

     Western Expansion to Progressivism

      Isolationism through the Great War

Becoming a World Power through WWII

      Cold War Era

      The Modern Age

Expectations

First and foremost I will not tolerate disrespect, to myself or other students; any disruptions will be dealt with through disciplinary action.

Students need to be seated at the tardy bell, in their assigned desk.  KHS has a zero tolerance policy for tardiness.

Have all materials in class daily.

No sleeping in class, this includes putting your head down.

Eating will not be allowed in class.  However, students may bring water to drink.

Academic Honesty:  Work should be a reflection of individual student ideas.  Students should not look at another student’s work or share their work with others.  Receiving or providing answers for an assignment, essay, quiz, or test is cheating and academic dishonesty—regardless of its form.  Any such action will result in a referral to the office for further review and possible additional disciplinary action

I expect all students to be in compliance with uniform policy while in my classroom; shirts tucked in and ID on at all times.

I expect all students to behave appropriately when a substitute is in my class. If you disrespect the substitute, there will be consequences.

Grading and Evaluation

Throughout the course there will be several opportunities for students to demonstrate their abilities and comprehension of the subject matter.  Assessments activities will include chapter or unit exams, in-class activities; small and large group activities, and other activities and assignments as necessary.  All grades will be based on a point value total and a straight percentage scale.  Full participation is required to succeed in class.  Your grade will be a representation of your effort and knowledge of the material.  Regular and engaged attendanceis important. Quality of participation in class discussions and other activities will be noted. Students are responsible for any material covered in class, as well as any announcements, handouts, or other information, whether or not they are present.
