Rules and Procedures
Procedures for Entering the Classroom:
There is a specific way you are to enter the classroom. You are expected to follow these procedures:
- You are not to stand or wait around in the hallway.
- Enter the classroom quietly without running or pushing.
- Take your assigned seat.
- Complete the bell ringer.
- Work quietly and by yourself.
- Wait for further instructions from the teacher.
If You Are Late:
You are late to class if you are not in your seat when the bell rings. If you are late to class you must:
- Walk in quietly, making as little noise as possible.
- Leave your pass on the lab desk (you must have a note to be admitted).
- Take your assigned seat.
- Join the activity in progress. If you do not know what the class is doing, raise your hand until the teacher sees you.
- Continue working/waiting quietly until the teacher gets to your desk.
If You Are Absent:
It is your responsibility to make-up any assignments or tests in a timely manner when you return from an absence. Follow this procedure:
- Join the activity in progress. If you do not know what to do, raise your hand and wait until the teacher reaches you.
- At some point, it is your responsibility to copy the missing activities and bell ringers. You may get this information from a responsible classmate. You will have only five days to make up an assignment/test for full credit. Beyond that point, the maximum score that can be earned will be dropped every day until the assignment is completed.
- If you need to make-up a test, you must make arrangements with the teacher. Tests can only be made up at a time convenient for the teacher.
- If you were absent on the day of a test review, but you were present when the test was announced and no new material was given, you will be required to take the test the same day as the rest of the class.
Procedure for the End of Class and Class Dismissal:
Right before the bell rings, everyone should be in their assigned seat, be quiet, gather all materials and wait for the teacher to dismiss the class. The bell does not dismiss class; the teacher does. Oftentimes, the teacher will use this time right before class is over to recap important information learned and to give homework assignments if needed. If you are not listening and miss the assignment, it is your fault.
When We Have a Visitor:
When we have someone come into our classroom who is not part of our class (teacher, administrator, student, parent) you are expected to follow the same classroom rules and procedures. You are expected to be polite to the visitor. Do not talk to the visitor unless he/she is talking to you directly. Continue working on your assignment as usual.
If the visitor needs to speak to me privately, I expect you to remain in your seat without talking until I finish speaking with the visitor and return to the classroom.
If You Finish Early:
If you finish all of your assigned work early you may:
- read
- work on an assignment for another class
- write
- draw
But above all, DO NOT SLEEP, TALK, OR DISTURB OTHERS. There is always something you could be doing if you finish your work early.
Restroom Policy:
You may go to the restroom only if:
- you have finished all of your assigned work.
- the class is working on individual class work. (No bathroom breaks will be given during teacher or guest lecture).
- you have not abused this privilege in the past. (The teacher will be keeping up with the number of times each student goes to the restroom per nine weeks.)
Classroom Rules:
Classroom Rules are posted in the classroom.
- Respect the teacher and classmates. You respect the teacher when you do what she says, do not talk back, do not touch her property without permission, and follow all classroom rules and procedures. You respect your classmates when you follow classroom rules and procedures.
- Follow directions. This means that you do whatever the teacher tells you to do without complaining or arguing about it.
- Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself. This means you do not throw things, kick things, push people, hit people, etc.
Consequences:
Everything we do in life has consequences. If you choose to run a red light, you must accept the consequences that come with it (traffic ticket, taking someone’s life, crashing your car, etc.). Consequences are the things that happen to you when you choose not to obey a rule. This is what will happen if you choose to violate one of the classroom rules:
- Warning
- Respect sheet must be copied three times and be signed by parent/guardian.
- Parent/guardian will be notified and students must copy five respect sheets.
- Referral
Severe offences (fighting, belligerent cursing, extreme disrespect to the teacher or another class mate, etc.) will result in an immediate referral.
