Kickin' It In Mrs. D's  Class! 

 

 

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!

 

Remember to send all forms of communication to school in your child's homework folder. If you have any questions or concerns please write me a note, call me at 463-1900x 1115, or contact me through Remind and I will get back to you.

 

Snack: Please make sure you are checking the snack calendar or snack reminder for your child's day. I will send home a reminder every week for the next week. When bringing in a snack please drop it off at the office by 10 AM or have your child bring it in with them. Please remember all snacks must prepackaged. Thank you all for your help.

 

Quick Reminder, we go outside for recess. Please make sure your child has dressed appropriately for the weather.

 Writer's Workshop-   This week in writer's workshop students we will continue our show and tell unit. Students will draw and write about important places. Students will continue to learn how to use the right colors and shapes when drawing items. At the end of writing they will share their work and use complete sentences to talk about their drawing and their writing. Students will be introduced to "bubble gumming" or stretching out their words to hear all the sounds and write what they hear. Ex: cat we will stretch to hear each individual sound: /c/a/t/ and then write the letters to match their sounds: cat. Students will also use their alphabet chart to help them write the sounds of the letters in their words. 

 

 Fundations and Word WorkThis week we students will learn the letters: v and w. We will review the letters:v,w,l,h,kp,j,e,r,d,s,a,g,n,m t,b, i,u,c,o, and f. Students will continue to learn about vowels. They will learn how vowels have to sounds: long and short.  Our vowels are: a,e,i,o, and u. We will also continue sight words. This week students will learn: you, on and look. Students will review all words learned. We will practice these and use these in sentences. Sight words or snap words are words that your child will learn in a "snap."  Please make sure you are practicing sight words at home. We will review: you,on, look,we, to, no, be, go, me, my, can, the, I, like, a, and see.

 

Reader's Workshop-  This week we in reader's workshop we will continue to  learn how books work. Students will learn to identify the beginning, middle, and end of a book. We will make sure we put our finger underneath the words and look for snap words. We will also learn how to reread for new information. Students will read the book, "Look!" and students will practice partner and individual reading. We will ask questions while reading to get a better understanding of what we are reading. We will also learn how to look for the pattern in our reading.

 

Math- During calendar we will practice counting 1-70. We will work on writing our numbers 1-70 daily.  We will match numbers to a set. Students will be given a number 1-20 and identify a set that correlates with their given number. We will learn how to identify teen numbers and how to identify one more and one less than a given number. We will also begin to learn about addition.
