We're Going to Wreck it This Year in Mrs. D.'s  Class! 

 

Remember to send all forms of communication to school in your child's homework folder. If you have any questions or concerns please write me a note, call me at 463-1900x 1115, or contact me through Remind and I will get back to you.

 

Snack: Please make sure you are checking the snack calendar or snack reminder for your child's day. I will send home a reminder every week for the next week. When bringing in a snack please drop it off at the office by 10 AM or have your child bring it in with them. Please remember all snacks must prepackaged. Thank you all for your help.

 

Quick Reminder, we go outside for recess. Please make sure your child has dressed appropriately for the weather.

 Writer's Workshop-   This week in Writer's Workshop students will continue our how to unit. Students will write about something they can teach others to do. Exs: ride a bike, tie your shoes.We will study sentences and make sure that they start with a capital letter, have finger spaces between the words, use our snap words, and end with a punctuation mark.  Students will share their writing with their writing partner to add to their writing. We will continue working on bubble gumming or stretching out words to hear all sounds in a word and then write. We will make sure all of our words in our stories have a vowel. 

 

 Fundations and Word WorkWe will continue to "bubble gum" our words and write the corresponding letters to the word heard. Ex: cat: segment: /c/a/t/ and then kiddos will write cat on their boards. Students will learn their vowels: a,e,i,o,u. We will work on how each vowel has a long and short sound.  Students will listen to words and identify if the vowel is long or short.  We will start working on consonant blends as seen in words:drop, twig. Sight words or snap words are words that your child will learn in a "snap." Students this week will be introduced to the sight words: his, into, her. Please make sure you are practicing sight words at home. Students will review all the words learned.

 

Reader's Workshop-  This week we will continue learning how to use super powers when reading. When reading we will use our powers to become a better reading. We will look at our anchor charts and determine which powers we need to use for reading: fix it power, pointer power, slider power, snap word power, think it power, reread power, and word- part power. We will use all of our powers when reading. This week we will continue to look at pictures to help us understand what we are reading. We will read books and retell our favorite part and the key parts of our book and also, beginning, middle, and end. We will identify the characters (people), setting (place), and details of the story. 

 

Math- During calendar we will practice counting 1-130. We will work on writing our numbers 1-130 daily.  We will match numbers to a set. Students will be given a number 1-20 and identify a set that correlates with their given number. We will continue to learn how to use a ten frame. Students are getting better at this :) We will also continue working on graphing. We will discuss which item we have the most, least, and same amount. We will continue working on addition and subtraction and identifying our symbols correctly.
