iHola!
Mission Statement:
My mission is to teach the Spanish language and culture to students with creative and relevant methods while incorporating new technology and real-life applications.
About Me:
I graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University in 2009 and participated in the LRCE Certifications Solutions program. This is my 9th year teaching Spanish. I taught at Denham Springs High School for 7.5 years, was an Instructional Coach in Wyoming for a semester, then returned home to Louisiana and am loving French Settlement High School. I received my Master's degree from SELU in Educational Leadership for Administration in December 2012.
As a creative person, I try my best to incorporate innovative ideas into every lesson I develop. No lesson is just "by the book." In fact, your child will never once use their Spanish book this year. Students are assessed in a variety of ways, such as: quizzes, tests, projects, performing skits, TPR (Total Physical Response) presentations, participation, and cultural research. Some topics of study include: The Spanish Basics, Immigration, Hispanic Artists, Present Tense Verbs, Family, Sports, Irregular Verbs, Clothing, Weather, Time, Christmas carols, Cinco de mayo history, and the Parts of Speech.
Clubs:
I am proud to be the FSHS Spanish Club sponsor.... encourage your child to join! We have a blast and try to take a yearly field trip. We enjoy Foreign Film Nights, try new Hispanic restaurants around Baton Rouge, and volunteer at the Baton Rouge Latin Festival which serves the Hispanic community in our area. If you are interested in hosting an event at your house, please email me! :)
